85 years of innovation and success
December 2024
This month, Flexible Drive celebrates 85 years of continuous growth and evolution, with our business thriving across multiple locations and through various iterations over the past eight decades. We remain committed to our mission, to drive change in a traditional industry, providing seamless user experiences in creating, searching, and delivering control systems for OEM and aftermarket transportation customers.
Component assembly
August 2024
At Flexible Drive, we offer a wide range of mechanical cables for repair, manufacturing, or adjustments. To support this, we maintain an inventory of nearly 5,000 individual components. Some of which are produced in-house using our CNC machines and 3D printers, while unique items are crafted by hand on lathes. Our team consists of qualified technicians, engineers, and skilled craftsmen, all dedicated to producing cables that meet the exacting standards of ISO9001.
The Flexible Drive Files
Circa 1959
It's 1959 and the Saab 95 is unveiled • Cuban Revolution ended • The Dalai Lama flees Tibet during the uprising • The Sidney Myer Music Bowl is officially opened by Prime Minister Robert Menzies • Westfield opened its first location in Blacktown • Flexible Drive manufactures speedometer cables and assemblies from its plant in Ascot Vale • And in 2024 our customers can still rely on us as Australia's best speedo, brake and clutch cable manufacturer.
The Flexible Drive Files
Circa 1964
In 1964 the EH Holden goes into production • Dawn Fraser wins 100m at the Tokyo Olympic Games for the third time in a row • Beatles tour Australia • First edition of The Australian newspaper • Donald Campbell sets a new world land speed record at Lake Eyre, 429 mph • Rolling Stones first album released • Flexible Drive launches an exciting new range of dash controls and accessories • And 60+ years later we’re still leaders in control systems and replacement parts.
It's in our DNA
November 2023
Like paleontologists piecing together a dinosaur from fragments of bone, we take parts so worn out they’re almost unidentifiable, and construct new ones that are indistinguishable from the original, whether it’s a brake cable from a 1925 Model T Ford or a gear shift cable from a 1994 Rav 4. Of course these aren’t components Flexible Drive can just pull off the shelf. They’re OE precision parts, as close to the original as our 3D printers, lathes and skilled tradesmen can achieve.
Let's engrave it
May 2023
Our ratio adaptor boxes are used to correct inaccurate speedo operation and are produced with the highest quality materials; but that's not the only benefit of our product. Flexible Drive offers laser engraving, in-house, allowing our customers a bespoke product. Want your components engraved with your name and/or part number? Just ask us.

3D industrial printing
March 2022
As part of continuous improvement in our technical services division Flexible Drive welcomes the Form 3+ additive printer complimenting our existing 3D capability. Although smaller in footprint this machine allows us to quickly go from design to finished part (such as creating dies for injection molding prototypes) using a wide range of functional resin with the streamlined, end-to-end workflow.
Our mission
January 2022
For some, a company mission is just a series of words given little focus by the organisation. To us, our mission is a statement we're proud to display on our wall for everyone to see. Why? Because we believe in it. At Flexible Drive, we are driven to execute our mission to lead the introduction of new techniques and be the catalyst for change in a large, traditional industry. It's the why we do what we do each and every day.
A capability injection
October 2021
Most of our customers are aware small plastic components are a feature of many of the mechanical cables Flexible Drive manufactures. This month's installation of our new injection molding machine adds to the manufacturing capabilities we are renowned for. This equipment is now producing components used in the manufacture of cables for vehicle conversions of left-hand drive to right-hand drive.

Over the coming months we'll be rolling out our new packs; let us know what you think when you see it hit your shelves.
